The Bureau Of Cannabis Control Crossed Testing Off Their List, Now They’re Working To Finalize The State’s Rules On Growing And Selling Recreational Cannabis

“We’re testing for 66 pesticides, and were also testing for microbiological contaminants, such as e-coli, salmonella, apratoxins, and we’re also looking for foreign matter and foreign material in the product.”
Lori Glauser Of EVIO Labs On How California’s Cannabis Is Being Tested
“People have said we’re building the plane as were flying, we’re building the car as we are driving. With cannabis we will have a statewide track and trace system that will track from the farm to the retail…you generally don’t have something that robust in general agriculture.”
Richard Parrott, Division Director For CalCannabis Cultivation Licensing, On Cannabis Testing In California

California Bureau Of Cannabis Control Crafting Rules For Marijuana Businesses (CA – Cannabis Regulations)

ABC 7 News (July 31, 2018) The State Bureau of Cannabis Control will be in Oakland Wednesday, working to finalize the state’s rules on growing and selling recreational cannabis. The Bureau hit its latest target, requiring all pot be tested before it hit store shelves the first of this month. But, it was just one of the many hurdles ahead. Outside of Sacramento, the state Bureau of Cannabis is busy bringing thousands of retailers into compliance with state law.

Post Apocolypse Aftermath: How Is California Adapting To New Cannabis Regulations? (CA – State Regulations)

LMT Online (August 1, 2018) Looking at any cannabis industry blog or publication, you might think that the California cannabis industry is currently in shambles. New regulations went into law on July 1, forcing retailers to purge non-compliant product from their shelves. This included concentrates, topicals, vaporizer cartridges and edible products that did not meet the new packaging or labeling standards. Consumers were delighted to take part in the “Green Saturday” sales but the industry was in a state of panic. Many retailers were forced to close for days, or even weeks, while waiting for new, compliant inventory to arrive.

Los Angeles Scraps Marijuana Tax Ballot Measure (CA – Cannabis Taxes)

Marijuana Business Daily (July 31, 2018) The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday abruptly changed course and yanked a proposed cannabis tax ballot measure that was poised to go before voters in November. The tax measure, dubbed the Cannabis Reinvestment Act, would have established a further 1% tax on all gross receipts for commercial marijuana activity, a $5 surcharge for tickets to MJ events and a $5 surcharge on cannabis tests performed by labs. But the measure was pulled by the council and replaced by an order for city staff to report back in 45 days on how L.A. could fund its Department of Cannabis Regulation and efforts to combat the illegal MJ market.

California Isn’t As Cool With CBD As You Might Think (CA – State Laws)

Food & Wine (July 31, 2018) California has usually been pretty cool with pot. Back in the ‘90s, it became the first state to legalize medical marijuana. And at the start of this year, California joined the small but growing number of states that have legalized recreational cannabis as well. But just because weed is legal, the state wants people to know that it still draws the line in certain areas, and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recently put its foot down when it comes to cannabidiol, also known as CBD.

Legal Marijuana Has Entered A New Era, And This Acquisition Proves It (USA – Attitude Change)

The Motley Fool (July 31, 2018) 2018 may very well go down as the most game-changing year on record for the legal cannabis movement. While other milestones, such as Uruguay becoming the first country worldwide to legalize recreational marijuana, and California becoming the first state to OK the use of medicinal cannabis for compassionate-use patients in 1996, will go down in the record books as big events, nothing quite compares to Canada becoming the first industrialized country in the world to give the thumbs-up to adult-use marijuana.

This Marijuana Stock Just Got Smoked By The FDA (USA – Cannabis Investments)

The Motley Fool (August 1, 2018) The legal marijuana industry is on the verge of a major surge in revenue. In June, Canada passed the Cannabis Act and, in the process, became the first industrialized country in the world to legalize recreational marijuana. This should, in all likelihood, open the door to $5 billion in added annual sales once the industry is fully ramped up. With sales figures these delectable, it’s no surprise that a vast majority of marijuana stocks have seen their valuations inflate substantially over the past two-plus years. However, not all pot stocks have participated in this rally.

People Use Cannabis Products For Health Problems Like Parkinson’s, Epilepsy, And Acne — But Misinformation And Out-Of-Date Regulations Are Stopping Most From Benefitting (USA – Cannabis Benefits)

Business Insider (August 1, 2018) When he was 15 years old, Jonas Duclos started to have some health issues. It took a while to work out what was wrong, but his doctors finally told him he was suffering from a rare genetic disease called PRP , which was attacking his skin and blood. For the past 17 years, Duclos has been trying to manage the excruciating pain the condition brings. As a teenager, he found the most effective painkiller available to him was cannabis — and he realised it was helping his pain more than all of the pills doctors were trying to give him.

Recreational Marijuana: A Business Boon For States?  (USA – Recreational Cannabis)

U.S. News (August 1, 2018) A former Methodist church in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, could soon become home to a marijuana retail shop. Massachusetts voted to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 years of age and older, and the law officially went into effect on Dec. 15, 2016, allowing for stores as of July. The state’s Cannabis Control Commission has approved five provisional licenses thus far, and those applicants need to meet several other conditions before being allowed to begin adult-use operations, according to the commission. States that have legalized recreational marijuana hope it leads to jobs and tax revenues. Colorado, the first state to legalize recreational marijuana in November 2012, reported $247,368,473 in tax revenues from marijuana sales for the year 2017.

Weed Legalization Is On A Roll – Will Canada, U.S. And Mexico Launch A Legal Marijuana Market? (World – Legalization)

Newsweek (August 1, 2018) As more and more North American governments move on from the “war on drugs” mentality of preceding decades, some politicians and activists suggest that a cross-border market for legal marijuana products could soon become a reality. With Canada’s June decision to legalize recreational Cannabis, Mexico’s new government giving serious consideration to legalizing drugs and more and more U.S. states legalizing the plant for adult use, including the largest state economy and population of California last year, the vast majority of North Americans may soon have access to legal marijuana.

State Senators Pressing Case Of Woman Fired For Pot Use (MA – Recreational Use)

The Eagle-Tribune (July 31, 2018) Two state lawmakers are supporting a Methuen woman’s quest for change after she was fired for smoking marijuana during her off-hours. Since her termination from a management job with a food service contractor at Holy Family Hospital earlier this summer, Bernadette Coughlin has been vocal about the need to change the system to protect workers like her. State Sens. Barbara L’Italien, D-Andover, and Joan Lovely, D-Salem, wrote a letter to Steven Hoffman, chairman of the state Cannabis Control Commission, urging action.
